Amboseli National Park
Situated in southern Kenya, Amboseli is spread over 400 sq km, characterized by open plains, marsh, and swamp lands. Large herds of elephants dwarfed against the towering Mt. Kilimanjaro in the backdrop is a quintessential Amboseli sight. Home to over 2000 elephants, it is one of the best places on earth to photograph and witness these gentle giants.

Wildlife
Primarily known for its elephant population, Amboseli is also home to iconic species such as lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, zebras, and more. Amboseli has incredible birdlife diversity with over 400 species recorded in the area; some special attractions are pelicans, kingfishers, and the mighty African fish eagles.
Vegetation
Amboseli is a mosaic of acacia woodlands, savannahs, and swamps all with the backdrop of Africa’s tallest, Mt. Kilimanjaro. The swamps are fed by perennial underground rivers, rolling down from Kilimanjaro. The dusty plains that otherwise look barren, fill up to make seasonal lakes and support a variety of aquatic plants. The varied landscape provides shelter to a wide diversity of species.

UNESCO BIOSPHERE RESERVE
Amboseli was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1991 due to its significant contribution to biodiversity conservation and its unique cultural heritage.
Amboseli has been a center for elephant research and conservation for over 50 years, contributing significantly to the understanding and protection of African elephants.
