    Day 1

An early morning departure from Chandigarh, and a 6-hour drive through the meandering foothills of the Himalayas will bring you to your destination for the night, Thanedar (about 2 hours ahead of Shimla). A picturesque setting to relax and rejuvenate for a night, as you prepare for the journey ahead.

    DAY 2

Drive further up and enter the steep mountains of Kinnaur, driving along the Sutlej River and scenic landscapes. End the day at Kalpa, with stunning uninterrupted views of the Kinner Kailash massif.

For foreign nationals, travelling, this is where we acquire the Inner Line Permits, required for the journey ahead.

    Day 3

As you drive higher up today, the landscapes will transform dramatically. The trees disappear with altitude, and small bushes dot the barren landscape.

We retire for the night at the quaint town of Kaza, about 500 m below our final destination in Chicham village. The slow ascent ensures you are well acclimatised to the harsh terrain and low oxygen levels.

    DAY 4

An hour’s drive from Kaza and we reach our lodge at Chicham village, situated at an altitude of 4,200 m. This cosy stay in the middle of the vast, cold desert of Spiti will be our home for the next few days.

Rested and settled in, we start our search for the elusive Himalayan wildlife in the evening.

    Day 5-9

Rise with the sun and embark on exciting adventures based on real-time intel from our expert spotters. Explore the beautiful mountains surrounding the lodge, or take short drives to promising locations based on potential snow leopard sightings. Some days might involve waiting for long hours, so be prepared for some patient observation as we wait for opportunities to witness these elusive, magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

    DAY 10

A relaxed morning at the lodge. Sip on a hot cup of coffee (or tea) and soak in the heavenly views.

Check out post breakfast and an 8-hour journey through the meandering hill roads later, arrive at Rampur for the night. The last night of the trip, reminisce about the wonderful time spent in the winter wonderland of Spiti.

    Day 11

An early morning departure from Rampur and 10 hours later,  reach the bustling city of Chandigarh.

Sad goodbyes, a promise to come back, followed by onward transfers

Himalayas: Snow Leopards & Brown Bears

There is no shortage of awe-inspiring experiences in the Himalayas- but watching a snow leopard effortlessly cross the rough terrain as it stalks its prey? Or, a Mama Bear followed by its tiny cubs in search of food in the high mountains? That’s a sight.
