Linyanti

Once part of a great inland lake, the Linyanti region is now dominated by water habitats. Its wide, permanent rivers and sprawling floodplains not only support a wide range of wildlife (matching that of the Okavango Delta) but also provide one of the best bird-watching experiences in Southern Africa. A Morning or afternoon safari here will deliver excellent game-viewing, including close encounters with the Big 5 and nocturnal wildlife.

Linyanti at a glance

Wildlife

Hundreds of miles from civilization, the Linyanti is a pristine wilderness area that hosts some of the largest herds of elephants, a high density of predators including lions, leopards, and a good number of African Wild Dogs. You should also expect to see large pods of hippos and crocodiles lining the river banks, along with many regional rarities and superb raptors.

Landscape

Being the place where the Linyanti River meets the Savuti Channel, Linyanti is one of Botswana’s most diverse habitats and a haven for wildlife- with its expansive grasslands, floodplains, mopane woodlands, and Indigenous, dense forests around the Linyanti River and Savuti Channel.

Did you know?

Lodged between the Okavango Delta, the Chobe National Park and Namibia’s Caprivi Strip, this wild and very remote area comprises three private wildlife reserves – Linyanti, Selinda, and Kwando – and access is limited to those visitors who have booked accommodation at one of the few private camps in the region.

SEASONS

Linyanti offers year-round safari opportunities, with a climate similar to other southern African countries. The coldest and driest months are June to August while the hottest and wettest periods are in January and February with warm days and cool mornings/evenings. The rest of the year remains quite mild and pleasant.
