Wildlife
This National Park is renowned for its rich and diverse wildlife. It is home to large populations of elephants, often seen standing on their hind legs to reach tree branches, as well as lions, leopards, and herds of buffalo and zebras. The park is one of Africa’s best places to spot endangered African wild dogs. Hippos and crocodiles thrive in the Zambezi River, while over 350 bird species, including fish eagles and kingfishers, make it a birdwatcher’s paradise. The wildlife’s concentration around the pools during the dry season offers extraordinary viewing opportunities for visitors.
Vegetation
Mana Pools boasts a rich and varied vegetation, creating a stunning backdrop for its wildlife. The park is known for its wooded savannahs, dominated by Acacia and mahogany trees, which provide shade and food for animals like elephants and antelope. Along the Zambezi River, you’ll find dense riverine forests, while the open grasslands offer excellent grazing for herbivores. During the rainy season, the floodplains come alive with lush greenery, and as the dry season sets in, the landscape transforms, with the vegetation thinning around the pools where wildlife gathers for water.
