Ranthambore National Park

"The earth has music for those who listen."

A visit to Ranthambore allows you to listen to the music of the natural world and appreciate the park’s importance. This sprawling park is a wild kingdom of scrubland (around 1334 sq km) cradled by rocky hills.  A majestic 10th-century fort called ‘The Ranthambore Fort’, stands tall at its heart.  Sprawled around the fort are ancient temples and mosques, crumbling hunting shelters, lakes that are filled with crocodiles, and vine-covered chhatris (cenotaphs).

The Ranthambore is quite rich in Fauna, with the tiger being at the top of the food chain. Other big cats include Leopard, Caracal, Fishing cat and jungle cat. You’ll also find animals like sloth bear, striped hyena, Jackal, Desert fox, two antler species: the spotted deer (chital), and Sambar deer and two kinds of antelopes namely the Indian Gazelle (chinkara ) and the Blue Bull (Nilgai ).

    Landscapes

Due to its proximity to the Thar desert, the park receives little rainfall resulting in a dry deciduous type vegetation. The prominent tree of the Ranthambore National Park is the ‘Dhok’ and constitutes about 80% of the vegetation cover. Other trees are the Banyan and Pip whose leaves contain medicinal properties. There are also fruit trees of mango, Indian blackberry, Ber, Jamun and Tamarind. In addition, there are many trees such as Chhila (Butea monosperma, the flame of the forest)
