Arrive in Leh at least two days early and take acclimatisation seriously: light activity, no alcohol, plenty of water. Thermal layering is non-negotiable; temperatures can fall well below minus twenty at night. Pack binoculars or a spotting scope if you have one. Come with realistic expectations about the search; sightings are genuinely wild and unpredictable, which is precisely what makes them matter. And embrace the pace. The Himalayas reward stillness, not urgency.

January through mid-March consistently produces the best snow leopard sightings in Ladakh. Blue Sheep, Ibex and descend to lower valleys as high-altitude grazing grounds freeze, and the leopards follow. February is widely considered the peak; cold enough to concentrate wildlife, clear enough for long-range spotting and the onset of the snow leopard mating season. Come prepared for the cold and this is unquestionably the finest time for a snow leopard expedition in India.
