Walking Safari In Danum Valley
Few places offer a more immersive experience of Borneoβs wild heart than Danum Valley, a vast expanse of pristine lowland rainforest where ancient trees rise above a landscape alive with extraordinary wildlife. Protected within the Danum Valley Conservation Area, this remarkable wilderness is one of Southeast Asiaβs most important strongholds for rainforest biodiversity.
Days are spent exploring forest trails in search of some of Borneoβs most elusive species, from Orangutans, Bornean Gibbons and Red Leaf Monkeys to Malayan Sun Bears, Bornean Pygmy Elephants and the enigmatic Sunda Clouded Leopard. The forest is equally rewarding for birdwatchers, with opportunities to encounter Great Argus, Black-crowned Pittas, Blue-headed Pittas, hornbills and a remarkable diversity of endemic rainforest birds.
As darkness descends, Danum Valley reveals another world. Guided night walks and drives bring the forest alive with nocturnal specialists, offering encounters with Western Tarsiers, Slow Lorises, Malayan Porcupines, civets, flying squirrels, owls, frogs and an extraordinary variety of insects. Immersive, remote and wonderfully wild, Danum Valley offers one of the finest opportunities to experience Borneoβs rainforest at its most pristine.

Wildlife
Borneo’s ancient rainforest offers a wildlife experience unlike anywhere else in Asia. Danum Valley is not only home to the elusive Bornean Orangutan, but also to Pygmy Elephants, Clouded Leopards, and over 340 species of birds, including the rare Bornean Bristlehead and Great Argus. Guided by an expert naturalist, you’ll walk beneath a 60-metre canopy on quiet forest trails, head out on night drives in search of nocturnal wildlife, and unwind each evening on a private deck overlooking one of the last untouched lowland rainforests on Earth
Habitat & Landscape
Borneo’s Danum Valley is a realm of ancient dipterocarp giants, mist-laced river valleys, and one of the oldest rainforests left on Earth. Home to some of the most biodiverse lowland forest in Asia, the landscape is characterised by a soaring 60-metre canopy, tangled understory, and the Segama River winding through untouched wilderness. As the mist lifts each morning, it reveals a forest alive with sound β hornbills calling, gibbons singing, and the rustle of orangutans moving through the high branches. This unique blend of primary rainforest, riverine habitat, and near-total isolation makes Danum Valley one of the finest destinations for orangutan tracking and lowland rainforest exploration in Southeast Asia.
