South Luangwa

Arguably Zambia’s best location for game viewing, South Luangwa is the place where the concept of walking safaris originated. Owing to it’s year-round water levels, this remote region is packed with big game at all times, making it perfect for guided game drives and walking safaris that offer intimate encounters with nature. In other destinations, Green Season (November – April) can mean less sightings but here it simply means even less people, a greater chance of seeing shy animals, and the chance to see newly born additions to the ecosystem. Book an Ameliya experience here and give yourself the opportunity to witness the drama of the African bush up close.

Do you know?

South Luangwa is the birthplace of walking safari thanks to one of its founders, British Conservationist, Norman Carr. In addition to his work with local chiefs, Carr was instrumental in initiating a visionary conservation concept, which extended to his establishment of the Rhino Trust.

SEASONS

Zambia’s subtropical climate offers warm and pleasant weather throughout most of the year, especially during the rainy season (roughly November to April) and the later part of the dry season (May to mid-August). However, the northern regions experience a cool-down during the dry season (May to August), making them a bit chillier compared to the rest of the country.
