Day- Wise Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival in Kota Kinabalu
Arrive in Kota Kinabalu and transfer to your hotel. Settle into your room and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure, taking time to relax and prepare for the birding adventure that awaits across Sabah’s remarkable rainforests and montane landscapes.
Day 2 - Drive & Birding in Kinabalu Park
After breakfast, depart Kota Kinabalu for the scenic drive to Kinabalu National Park (approximately 2.5 hours). Upon arrival, check in to your lodge and enjoy lunch before setting out for your first birding session in the surrounding montane forests.
The afternoon is dedicated to photographing some of Kinabalu’s more reliable montane species, including Bornean Treepie, Bornean Whistling Thrush, Chestnut-crested Yuhina, Mountain Black-eye, Indigo Flycatcher, Temminck’s Sunbird, Grey-throated Babbler and Black-capped White-eye. As the light softens, the forest offers excellent opportunities to capture these endemic and highland specialists in their natural habitat.
Day 3 & 4 - Endemic Bird Photography in Kinabalu National Park
Rise before sunrise for two full days of bird photography in the montane forests of Kinabalu National Park, when the soft morning light and peak bird activity offer the finest photographic opportunities. Accompanied by your expert private bird guide, explore a network of forest trails and strategic hides in search of Borneo’s most coveted endemics, including Whitehead’s Trogon, Whitehead’s Broadbill, Whitehead’s Spiderhunter, Bornean Green Magpie, Bornean Treepie, Bornean Whistling Thrush and Mountain Black-eye. With patience and a little fortune, there is also the possibility of photographing rarities such as the Friendly Bush Warbler, Everett’s Thrush, Fruithunter and the elusive Mountain Serpent Eagle.
Throughout the day, your private guide will carefully position you for the best natural light, anticipate bird movements and help you achieve clean, natural compositions. Between morning and afternoon sessions, photograph Borneo’s remarkable avifauna against a backdrop of moss-laden trees, towering montane forest and drifting mountain mist.
Day 5 - Kinabalu to Sepilok
Begin the day with an early morning birding session around your lodge, taking advantage of the first light to photograph any remaining montane species before breakfast. Afterwards, drive to Kota Kinabalu Airport (approximately 2.5 hours) for your flight to Sandakan. Upon arrival, enjoy a short transfer to your rainforest lodge in Sepilok (approximately 20 minutes) and settle in for the evening, ready to explore Borneo’s ancient lowland rainforest the following day.
Day 6 - Birding in Sepilok
After an early morning coffee, venture into the lowland rainforests of Sepilok with your expert private bird guide. Explore the forest trails in search of Bornean Black Magpie, Black-and-red Broadbill, Green Broadbill, Yellow-rumped Flowerpecker, Buff-necked Woodpecker, Rufous Piculet and the striking Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher. Your guide will help spot elusive species, position you for the best light and maximise photographic opportunities throughout the morning.
Later, visit the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre before returning for lunch. In the afternoon, continue birding at the Rainforest Discovery Centre, where the canopy walk and forest trails provide excellent opportunities to photograph hornbills, barbets, leafbirds, trogons and a variety of lowland rainforest specialists.
Day 7 - Into the Kinabatangan
After breakfast, transfer to the jetty and enjoy a scenic 2.5-hour boat journey along the Kinabatangan River to your riverside lodge. Upon arrival, check in and take some time to settle into your rainforest surroundings before heading out for an afternoon birding session around the lodge.
The riverbanks, fruiting trees and forest edge attract an impressive variety of birdlife, offering opportunities to photograph Rhinoceros Hornbill, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Black Hornbill, Bushy-crested Hornbill, White-crowned Hornbill, Blue-eared Kingfisher, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Black-and-yellow Broadbill, Scarlet-rumped Trogon, Greater Green Leafbird and Asian Fairy-bluebird. As the afternoon light softens, your private guide will help position you for the best photographic angles while searching for some of the Kinabatangan’s most iconic birds.
Day 8 & 9 - Bird Photography on the Kinabatangan
Rise before dawn and join your private bird guide as the rainforest awakens to the chorus of Borneo’s birdlife. Explore the Kinabatangan River by private boat during the soft morning light, when activity is at its peak and photography conditions are at their finest. Search for Storm’s Stork, Lesser Adjutant, White-fronted Falconet, Oriental Honey Buzzard, Buffy Fish Owl, Red-naped Trogon, Black-and-yellow Broadbill, Dusky Broadbill, Copper-throated Sunbird, Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker, Purple Heron and Oriental Darter, while your guide carefully positions the boat for the best light and clean photographic backgrounds.
Return to the lodge for lunch before venturing out once more in the late afternoon. As the golden light settles across the floodplains, continue photographing riverine specialists, wetland birds and raptors as they become increasingly active, with every cruise offering new species and unique photographic opportunities.
Day 10 - Departure
Enjoy a final morning in the rainforest before transferring by boat to Sepilok (approximately 2.5 hours). From here, continue to Sandakan Airport for your onward flight, departing Borneo with unforgettable memories and an exceptional collection of images of the island’s remarkable birdlife.

Payment Terms
- All tours operate on 100% advance payment.
- 50% need to be paid at the time of booking, 25% is due 120 days prior to the trip start date and 25% 90 days prior.
- The preferred mode of payment is Bank Wire. All card transactions will incur a 3.5% service fee.
- Rates are subject to change and are not applicable for Christmas/New Years. Rates are valid for 2024 only. Rates for 2025 will incur a 10% hike.
- Any changes in government taxes and park/conservancy fees have to be borne by the guests.
- We reserve the right to revise any published costs without prior notice. However, confirmed bookings will be honoured.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation Policy
- 50% is non-refundable once the payment is done.
- The remaining amount will be refunded if cancellation is done 120 days prior to the tour start dates. Between 90-120 days, 35% is refunded.
- No refund if cancellation is done between 0 – 90 days of the trip start date. Amendment in dates within 90 days from arrival is treated as a cancellation.
- Please note that the date of written communication (e-mail) of intent to cancel will be the date considered for the calculation of the cancellation fees.
- The cancellation amount is calculated as per the total booking amount and not as per the advance deposited.
- No refunds in case of refusal to use a service/activity mentioned in the itinerary.
- All refunds are processed minus bank charges.
