Jim Corbett National Park

Set in the Himalayan foothills of Uttarakhand, Jim Corbett National Park is a dramatic wilderness of ancient sal forests, sweeping grasslands and river valleys framed by the Shivalik Hills. From early-morning jeep safaris to birding along the Ramganga River, Corbett offers one of India’s most immersive wilderness experiences.

Binsar and Kasar Devi

Set high in the Kumaon Himalayas, Binsar and Kasar Devi offer a beautiful blend of wilderness and stillness. Their oak, rhododendron and pine forests are home to leopards, barking deer and goral, alongside Himalayan birds such as Koklass Pheasant, Red-billed Blue Magpie, Grey-winged Blackbird, Himalayan Woodpecker and several species of laughing thrushes and sunbirds. Jim's Jungle Retreat

Tucked away on the southern edge of Corbett Tiger Reserve, Jim’s Jungle Retreat is an intimate wilderness lodge surrounded by the sal forests and grasslands of the Himalayan foothills. Inspired by the old forest rest houses of the region, the retreat combines understated comfort with a deep connection to the wild. Days begin with private safaris into Corbett in search of tigers, elephants and extraordinary birdlife, while time at the lodge is spent walking forest trails, enjoying locally inspired cuisine and listening to the sounds of the jungle as evening settles over the Terai.

The Kumaon

Hidden amongst the forested ridges of Almora, The Kumaon is a remarkable expression of contemporary design in the Himalayas. Recognised with a MICHELIN Key and amongst Tatler’s Best Hotels in Asia, its ten private suites look across sweeping valleys towards the great Himalayan peaks. Surrounded by forests and within easy reach of Binsar and Kasar Devi, days here move between wilderness walks, birding and exploration, while yoga, meditation and exceptional locally inspired cuisine invite you to slow down and simply experience the mountains.

Day - Wise Itinerary

Day 1

  • Meet your private Ameliya guide in Delhi and begin your journey towards the forests of Jim Corbett, approximately 4.5 hours by road, depending on traffic. Watch the city gradually disappear as you make your way towards the Himalayan foothills and the wild landscapes of the Terai.
  • Arrive at Jim’s Jungle Retreat and settle into your accommodation, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the forest.
  • Later in the afternoon, step out with your private guide for a leisurely birding walk around the lodge and surrounding forest edges. This is your first introduction to Corbett’s remarkable birdlife and a chance to become familiar with the landscape before entering the National Park the following morning.
  • As dusk settles over the forest, return to the lodge for a relaxed evening and dinner, followed by a private briefing with your guide on the days of exploration ahead.

Day 2, 3 & 4

  • Rise early, while the forest is still cloaked in darkness, and enjoy a freshly brewed coffee or tea with light refreshments before setting out with your private guide for your morning safari into Jim Corbett National Park.
  • Enter the park as the first light filters through the great Sal forests, riverine woodland and open grasslands. Corbett is home to an extraordinary diversity of wildlife, including Bengal Tigers, Asiatic Elephants, Leopards, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Hog Deer and Wild Boar. Your guide will read tracks, alarm calls and other signs of the forest as you search for its more elusive inhabitants.
  • Return to Jim’s Jungle Retreat for a relaxed breakfast and lunch, with the middle of the day left at leisure. Rest in your room, spend time around the lodge or simply enjoy the sounds of the surrounding forest.
  • Later in the afternoon, head back into Corbett for your second private safari of the day. As temperatures begin to fall, the forest becomes active once again β€” elephants emerge to feed, deer gather in the clearings and the search for tigers continues until the last light.
  • Return to the lodge after sunset for drinks and dinner, sharing stories and sightings from the day with your guide before another early start the following morning.

Day 5

After a leisurely breakfast, bid farewell to the forests of Corbett and begin your private road journey towards The Kumaon, approximately 5 hours away.

  • Watch the landscape transform as you gradually leave the Terai behind and climb deeper into the Kumaon Himalayas, passing mountain villages, terraced fields, pine-covered ridges and sweeping valleys along the way.
  • Arrive at The Kumaon by afternoon and settle into your private suite. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure, taking in your first views of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks as the evening light moves across the mountains.
  • Enjoy a relaxed dinner prepared with locally sourced Kumaoni ingredients, before retiring for the night.

Day 6

  • Sunrise Yoga session with the panoramic views of the Himalayas, along with a certified yoga-instructor,.Β
  • After a leisurely breakfast, spend the later half of the morning with your private guide for a bird watching or photography session around The Kumaon and its surrounding forest trails. The oak and pine-covered hills support wonderful Himalayan birdlife, offering opportunities to photograph woodpeckers, laughing thrushes, barbets, minivets and raptors as the forest comes alive with the morning light.
  • Post-lunch have some time at leisure in the mountains. The afternoon and early evening can be spent in your cozy rooms, the common areas with the in-house dogs, or book a spa session with a professional therapist.Β
  • Β Post-dinner embark on a night drive with your naturalist, explore the forest roads and village edges along the periphery of Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary in search of the elusive Leopard. These cats regularly move through the mosaic of forests, pastures and villages after nightfall. Keep watch for other nocturnal wildlife, including the Himalayan Red Fox and secretive Leopard Cat, before returning to the property for the night.

Day 7

  • Rise with the sun for a yoga session led by a certified instructor, set against the magnificent backdrop of the snow-capped Himalayas. Ease into the morning as the first light spills across the mountains.
  • After yoga, enjoy a guided meditation session in the area often associated with the Van Allen Belt. Surrounded by pine forests and mountain silence, slow down and take in the extraordinary setting.
  • After lunch, set out on foot towards the ancient Kasar Devi Temple, following trails through traditional Kumaoni homes, forest edges and pastoral land. With your naturalist, look for tracks, scrapes and other signs of leopards before settling in to watch a dramatic Himalayan sunset.
  • Return to The Kumaon as evening falls. Relax and enjoy dinner after a day of stillness, wilderness and mountain landscapes.

Day 8

  • Begin another Himalayan morning with a sunrise yoga session, surrounded by crisp mountain air, forested ridges and distant snow-capped peaks. Afterwards, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and a slow morning at The Kumaon.
  • After lunch, set out with your naturalist on a forest trail to a secluded Himalayan waterfall. Walk through pine and oak forests, listening for birds and watching for signs of wildlife before spending some quiet time by the falls.
  • Return to The Kumaon in the evening for dinner and some time to freshen up. Later, head out on another night drive along the periphery of Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, searching for leopards, Himalayan Red Foxes, Leopard Cats and other nocturnal wildlife.

Day 9

  • Begin your final morning in the Kumaon Himalayas at a leisurely pace. Enjoy breakfast at The Kumaon, taking in the mountain views and crisp Himalayan air one last time.
  • After breakfast, bid farewell to the mountains and your hosts before beginning your private road journey back to Delhi with your Ameliya guide.
  • Descend through the forested Himalayan foothills as the landscape gradually gives way to the plains, bringing to an end a journey through tiger country, Himalayan forests and some of Uttarakhand’s most remarkable wilderness.
